Fashionista Diaries: Jane Magazine Cliffhanger!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

jane.jpgI knew it would be a cliffhanger! OK it’s not really a cliffhanger because everyone knows the magazine folds. But it figures Bridgette would be the one who texted Andrew and Rachel first with the terrible news that their dream jobs were being cut tragically short, which she not-no-secretly relished delivering (Boy did she look like an idiot during that “pull,” but I do think she’s cute and stylish. Now i have to go take a shower). Hated how they fuzzed out everyone’s face while they were packing their sad cardboard boxes — apparently they didn’t sign releases. The morbidly curious part of my brain really wanted to see their expressions. Poor Jane.

Janjay and Tina are like the picture of sane and normal while the rest are just disintegrating before our eyes.

Me? Invited to a Fashion Event at Bryant Park? Good Grief!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

pigpen.jpgOh, it’s a Snoopy fashion event? Whith couture looks inspired by Peanuts characters? Fantastic.

We hope you will join us for the MetLife Presents Snoopy in Fashion Show on Friday, September 7 at 6 p.m. at The Tent in Bryant Park.

This unique event will feature couture looks inspired by Peanuts characters from fashion’s favorite designers including, Heatherette, Isaac Mizrahi, Betsey Johnson, Liz Claiborne, Jeremy Scott, Laura Bennett, and many more. Broadway and film star Kristen Chenoweth will design a surprise outfit inspired by her Peanuts alter ego Sally, her Tony award-winning role in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

In the month following the show, outfits will be auctioned off on eBay to benefit Dress for Success.

Love the whole benefit thing. The Peanuts theme is … a little weird. But IMDB tells me that Kristin Chenoweth (the flacks spelled her name wrong in the press release!) was born the same year as me and since we have the same name and all, I fully support her Peanuts fashion efforts. Can’t wait to see the Pigpen outfit!

Super Cute Anthropologie Dress Not on Sale

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

picture-4.pngSo I went to Anthropologie for the sale, and of course found something awesome that was not on sale. Love this dress… it’s shiny, soft linen. But it’s not too flashy — you could wear it to work or out at night. It’s super comfy and covers my arms, which makes me happy. Plus it’s not too terribly expensive even though it’s not on sale ($158). UPDATE: The shiny goes away.

Fashionista Diaries: Morbid Anticipation of the Jane Magazine Episode

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

picture-3.pngFashionista Diaries is “officially awesome,” according to Jezebel, and those gals know awesome. If you haven’t been watching, you can catch up here. The show, on SoapNet on Wednesdays at 9pm, features three sets of “assistants” trying to “make it in the world of fashion.” They work for Jane magazine, Flirt! cosmetics and Seventh something PR firm. It’s all pretty juicy and catty and all-around makes for an entertaining hump day night. But the episode I’m dying to see is the one where Jane gets shut down. I feel a little guilty about this because I loved Jane, but I’m morbidly curious to see a magazine fold in front of my eyes. I imagine it could be a learning experience — you never know when it might happen to you!

I Love Me a Lookbook

Foley printed silk jersey top
I could waste quite a bit of time browsing through lookbooks like the ones at ShopBop. Here’s an outfit from their latest; I covet this top and wish very much for it to be in my closet. Kinda pricey ($326), dammit.

Oh by the way, I went to Madison, Wisconsin in June for my friend Katie’s awesome wedding (at this beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright building), and visited the ShopBop store, where it all started. The sales girl told me they had recently opened their second warehouse for online sales. Unfortunatley, husband was in tow so it was sctrictly a window shopping affair.

Fantastic Nail Polish to Make the Grodiest Feet Pretty

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

light my sapphireMy toenails are kind of all mangled right now, but they’re much improved since my fantastic pedicure yesterday (at Polished Lounge in San Francisco, highly recommended). The color is Light My Sapphire by O.P.I. I couldn’t tell it was slightly blue by looking at the bottle — it looked black — but when I saw the name I decided to trust the color namers and try it. Love it. My husband said it looked like “grape.” It’s basically black with a hint of blue depending on the angle from which you’re observing. I’m going to get my fingernails done in the same color next week, yay for lunchtime mani-pedis. The time I could spend discussing nail polish is somwhat amazing.

Oh by the way, if you’re near Hayes Valley, Mara is the best bargain in town. High-end style pedicure but great prices. No nasty spa chairs (ditto for Polished Lounge).

Now *That’s* a Frickin’ Wide Leg

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

seven-wide-leg.jpg
Wide-leg sailor-type pants never seem to go completely out of style. But at the moment they seem to be having quite a resurgence in popularity, n’est-ce pas? Check these out. Wide! We seem to have a funny state of affairs at the moment when very wide legs seem current, and skinny jeans still seem fashionable, but boot cuts look a bit dated, no? Is it just me?

Awesome Shirt Nears End of Days

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

be-off-shoulder.jpgMy favorite shirt is getting really old. It used to be black, but now it’s kind of gray with bleach marks. It is a lot like this shirt but mine’s cotton, which is SO MUCH better than effing poly slash rayon. Beau & Eros, please make a cotton off-shoulder top again? Or, someone else?

Loeffler Randall Platform Update

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

So, they are really cute, but I have to warn you, they hurt a little. The leather is a bit stiff, and I twisted my ankle (just minorly) a couple times. Don’t get me wrong. I’m willing to suffer a little. I just wanted to let you know.
